Book to write your Access Test HERE

In order to gain admittance to Stellenbosh University (SU), you have to write the access tests (ATs). The only exception is prospective students in MBChB, B in Occupational Therapy, BSc in Physiotherapy and BSc in Dietetics, who write the national Health Sciences Placement Test(HSPT). (More information regarding this is posted to the students concerned or is available at www.nbt.ac.za).

Please note that the ATs apply only to undergraduate students wishing to study at SU as newcomers/first years. If you register as a second year or have already graduated and now wish to start a second degree or postgraduate programme, you do not have to write the ATs.

What happens if I am not admitted to the University?
  • If you are not admitted to the University on the basis of programme or faculty specific requirements, you are still welcome to write the ATs.  You could, for example, be reconsidered for admission if you change your programme choice or, if you are in Gr11, improve your matriculation marks.  In such a case, contact the Centre for Prospective Students directly at 021 808 2923/4027 or tgt@sun.ac.za to make a booking.
  • If your AT results do not meet the minimum requirements to be admitted to the University, you could repeat your ATs in the next year of application in order to improve your marks.
  • There is also the option to gain admission to alternative access routes and programmes (including foundation and extended degree programmes).  For more information, please visit the website for extended degree programmes.
  • Potential students whose school preparation has been inadequate can also gain access via these alternative routes, including SciMathUS, and achieve success with additional support and a longer period of study.  SciMathUS is a second-chance programme with the focus on Mathematics, Physical Sciences and Accounting.  The acronym  SciMathUS stands for "Science, Mathematics University Stellenbosch".
